BN.com Fined for Security Lapse

MacCentral: Barnes & Noble fined for online security breach

A few user complaints to Barnes & Noble in early 2002 that indicated some people could gain access to other people's credit card info and even purchase books online went unheeded until August. For that, New York City's attorney general is forcing BN.com to pay a $60,000 fine and implement a security program to prevent things like this from happening in the future.
