Nothing says 'youth' like
an esoteric logo
It would appear that Google's fabled ad-supported Gphone has been beat to the punch.
Blyk, a "virtual" mobile operator, provides free voice-call minutes when users complete surveys and watch targeted adverts. It launched in the UK this morning.
The company proposes to "[link] young people up with the brands they like." It is currently invitation-only, and upon receiving an invitation, users must complete a demographic profile on the Blyk website.
After this process, consumers are sent a free SIM card for any MMS-compatible phone, reports Yahoo's Liveblog.
The Blyk website divulges plans to go pan-European in '08. The company hopes to reach over 40 million young consumers - in particular, those between the ages of 16 and 24.
