SearchEngineLowdown: Web 2.0 - Blogs Continue to Grow
Technorati founder David Silfry, speaking at Web 2.0 reported that there are 4.1 million blogs, with an additional one appearing every seven seconds or so. Technorati's system keeps watch over all of these diary sites. Almost half of those will be abandoned shortly after their creation. He also noted that there has developed a visible correlation between the number of in-bound links to a blog and whether or not it has an RSS feed. Only about a third of blogs syndicate via such a feed.
