Bloggers Fail to Ruin Convention

NYT: Blogged in Boston: Politics Gets an Unruly Spin

It turned out, after all, that having bloggers at the Democratic National Convention wasn't that big a deal. The New York Times reviews the results of having had bloggers trawl the floor and snark on the happenings. The report doesn't find any great news - or insight for that matter - having come from the blogs. But, then again, none was seen from the mainstream press either, including the New York Times.

The event, having been so scripted, was less of an event and more of a series of speech readings. At least the bloggers tended to show a more accurate tone in their work, acting as a Mystery Science Theater 3000-type peanut gallery, poking fun at what little happened outside of the grand script. The mainstream press, instead, hyped the event hour by hour, competitively trying to gain attention for their coverage.
