Online Spin: Why Blacklists Don't Stop Spam

Blacklists may be doing more harm than good. According to Tom Hespos, spammers who get blacklisted - having their IP address put on a list that then prevents them from sending spam from that address again - merely get another address. Meanwhile, the poor jerk who inherits that IP designation finds many of his emails blocked. Hespos used his own blog as an example, showing that spammers that he blocks pop up days later from other addresses.
