BlackBerry Pearl 8120 Nips iPhone's Heels, Includes Wi-Fi Support

BB Pearl gets iLift?

BlackBerry maker Research in Motion has added wi-fi to its smallest handset, the BlackBerry Pearl.

The Pearl 8120 was released this wee. Like the competitive iPhone, which also supports wi-fi, it is available exclusively on the AT&T network.

In addition to standard 802.11 b/g networks (which means users can use it at public hotspots, on corporate WLANs and at home), the Pearl will run on AT&T's EDGE network, which reaches 13,000 cities and 40,000 miles of major highways.

AT&T recently replaced T-Mobile Hotspots as Starbuck's wi-fi network of choice. The EDGE network will ultimately be replaced with 3G coverage.
