A new bill proposed by an Illinois Senator, if passed, would block access to MySpace and similar social-networking sites in schools and libraries. The bill, proposed by Republican Senator Matt Murphy from Illinois, seeks to block access to some social networking sites in schools and libraries in an effort to help protect children from sexual predators, MyWebTimes reports. But some educators are speaking out against the bill, because an exact definition of what is a social-networking site, isn't included. As a result, some sites that educators encourage students to use for helping each other with homework assignments and the like, could be banned as well. Sen. Murphy says his main goal in proposing the bill wasn't getting it passed, but to instead get educators and parents talking about what their children have access to while at school.

"I don't expect nor did I intend on the bill passing in its current form," Murphy said. "My intention is really to start a dialogue with librarians, schools, state and local police and try and get a better understanding of what sites the predators are using to target youth."
