Big Newspaper Firms Join to Create Online Circulars

Clickz: Newspaper-Owned Web Venture Tries Local Sale Search

Ganett, Kight Ridder and Tribune Company combined forces to create the online equivalent of the newspaper circular - the slick packet of ads and coupons that tends to slip out of the newspaper at inconvenient times. The service, dubbed ShopLocal is a searchable directory of offers geared at boosting the likelihood that local businesses spending promotional dollars online will keep those budgets where they're currently spent: with their local newspaper. Users are expected to conduct searches and then print out lists of offers to take with them to the store.
