Impervious to all but whim
BET has pulled a section of its website that, while popular, drew criticism to itself and its advertisers, reports MediaPost.
The "B-Girls" section of BET's website featured photos of women in revealing clothing and sexually suggestive poses, sent in by the women themselves. The photos were sometimes used to decorate the social networking profiles of visitors.
BET says the decision to drop "B-Girls" was made some time ago, but news of it comes shortly after a blogger launched a campaign to pressure BET to do just that.
The campaign also applied pressure to advertisers on the page, asserting they supported negative stereotypes.
BET says the protest did not impact the decision, and that advertiser feedback was not a factor either. Advertisers themselves remain mum on the topic.
