Bebo Overtakes MySpace in the U.K.

Bebo overtook MySpace as the most visited social networking site in the U.K., reports NetImperative, citing Hitwise data for the UK Net Communities & Chat category as of May 27. The two sites are virtually tied, however. Bebo on Saturday claimed 12.52 percent of visits in the category, compared with 12.28 percent for MySpace; on Monday, the order was reversed, with shares of 13.2 percent and 12.95 percent.

However, Bebo's average session time surpassed that of MySpace in the week ended May 6, and the gap is expected to widen. Apparently, though appealing to a similar audience, the sites are used differently.

Searches for bands, such as "lily allen." "lostprophets" and "we are scientists," seem to be driving traffic to MySpace, whereas searches for individuals with Bebo user profiles are among the top terms sending visitors to Bebo.
