The Beach Boys have used the tongal.com platform to crowdsource a video for its SMiLE collection. Fans were invited to concept and create music videos for two of the group’s classics, “Heroes and Villains” and “Good Vibrations”.
The winning video for "Heroes and Villains", created by Robert Capria, premiered on Yahoo Music [video].
Capria, a creative director at Actuality Films, won $5,000 and a autographed Hobie Beach Boys Surf Board for his winning video.
Crowdsourcing has become a favorite platform for brands to include their customers in a product development or new campaign. As another example, Lego recently launched its website, Lego Cuusoo, to crowdsource new product ideas. Lego launched a submarine design called 21100 Shinkai 6500, from the pilot project.
Crowdsourcing Lite
As these recent examples make clear, crowdsourcing is moving away from its early all-or-nothing approach. Firms are more willing to test the waters when there is less riding on the outcome.
