The BBC is planning to sell programs and display advertising to overseas viewers via its website in an effort to boost revenues, reports NetImperative. The BBC's director of new media and technology, Ashley Highfield, told the Guardian newspaper this week that the plans were "coming up the agenda." The BBC is restricted by its charter from selling advertising on its UK online service, or making content available for free to non-U.K. residents; therefore, it has been testing software to identify where its internet users are coming from.
