BayTSP, NTT to Launch DIY Copyright Protection Technology for Online Video

Watch for the trail

BayTSP has formed a partnership with NTT that enables publishers to use video and audio fingerprinting technologies to learn whether their content is misused online, particularly on sites like Google Video, YouTube or Daily Motion.

BayTSP provides content authentication technology; NTT's content recognition platform has not, up until this point, debuted in the US.

NTT has provided services in Japan and China for statistical analysis of TV ads, as well as a "name that tune" functionality for mobile phones.

BayTSP's content authentication system uses watermarking technology and digital fingerprinting to protect and monetize content online. The fingerprint library is kept by BayTSP. Sites like YouTube may reference it to determine whether a suite of user-generated videos include copyright-protected material.

Following a joint beta, the firms plan to launch a commercial service whereby content proprietors can generate their own audio and video fingerprints for monitoring videos that appear illegally on UGC sites.
