Barbie Has a Blog (Manufactured In Vitro)

Barbie's blog, with pseudo web cam, buddy pictures and phone/PDA (found through Boing Boing). Her first entry from 10/31/02:

Great Party – Bad Luck
Every fabulous person in NY must have known about that party in SoHo last night! Totally packed. Some guy bumped into Madison and spilled cranberry juice on her new killer suede slouchy boots. OUCH! Gotta call her. I wonder if she’s recovered yet.

Barbie comes up as vapid as I imagined her to be. Check her e-mail, she's in good company.

This must be the first blog with mile-long privacy policy and legal terms and conditions, with a blogroll that looks like a shopping menu (her friends blog too), without outbound links nor permalinks. Feels very artificial. And why isn't Ken blogging too? He might write:

Went to the movies with Barbie last night. She was a total bitch like she always is, but man, she's the perfect trophy girlfriend so I bear with her. She's high maintenance though, hopefully the stock market recovery is here to stay.

Overall, here's a great example of how to try to mimick a grassroots practice, but botch it so much it reinforces your Kold Korporate Brand image. Sad, because doing a blog for a fictional character is actually an interesting idea.

If Barbie was smart, her blog would be at barbie.blogspot.com (actually taken by someone else) not at http://www.myscene.com/barbie/barbie_index.asp, and wouldn't use such a sophisticate design.
