iMedia: Online Banking Draws More Interest
More and more consumer banking is being transacted online, moving the center of gravity of the banking industry further toward the Internet. The top ten U.S. banks saw 22 million users access their accounts online in Q1 2004. That's up by almost a third over Q1 2003, according to comScore. The industry ads about 100,000 new online banking customers each quarter, with many charging fees for offline services - which create more banking overhead - while making the Internet banking free.
