AFP: Australia says getting tough on spammers proving successful
The Australian Communications Authority bragged that its new regulations that went into effect in April have had a significant effect on spammers, in some cases shutting them down or even causing them to flee the continent. Companies or people repeatedly sending unsolicited emails are subject to fines of more than a million Australian Dollars a day. The Authority held its rules up as examples for the rest of the world, as nothing prevents these spammers from setting up shop elsewhere.
