AT&T's Online Piracy Crusade Marches On

"Now's time to show 'em!"

Broadband provider and telecom giant AT&T is developing a new system to prevent unauthorized distribution of copyrighted content, according to NewTeeVee.

The move may be a result of its move into IPTV through the U-Verse network, making it receptive to deals with content owners. AT&T has already met with Viacom and Paramount to discuss possible solutions.

AT& T has a history of reigning on the end user. It's under fire with Internet advocacy organizations for its opposition to network neutrality legislation and collaboration with the National Security Administration to enable warrantless wiretapping.

With public torrent tracker Mininova quoting torrents served at an astounding two billion currents, unauthorized distribution is only growing.
