Ask Jeeves Launches Desktop Search

Ask Jeeves gave a sneak preview of its desktop search application to SearchEngineLowdown, which, in the shadow of yesterday's Microsoft desktop search beta release, gave it a good review. The product is largely based, as predicted, on Ask Jeeve's Tukaroo acquisition of last summer. The company still needs to integrate web results into the desktop results and says it plans an early 2005 launch. Interestingly, Ask Jeeves executives indicated they do not plan to make money directly from the search application, but rather hope to gain higher web search share by providing the service.
