DM News: DMA Spam Sting Bears Fruit
Attorney General John Ashcroft will reportedly make an announcement today detailing 100 arrests and other legal actions against spammers. DM News reports that in May, an FBI official specifically mentioned the Direct Marketing Association's (DMA's) "Slam Spam" effort as having proved helpful in the Bureau's identifying and targeting spammers for prosecution. The DMA's definition of spam is limited to unsolicited email that also incorporates fraud, so it is possible the coming Justice Department announcement will not include simple spamming allegations.
