This article takes a look at the trend in online newspaper publishing from free to fee. Many newspapers are beginning to charge not just for archive content but for current content as well. Additionally, newspapers are launching "digital" versions of the printed paper and charging for that as well.
Some feel, though, digital editions are not all they are cracked up to be, stating they do not take advantage of the web's ability to offer continually updated news.
Beyond the additional revenues gained from this approach, newspapers can also count paid digital subscribers in their total circulation figures allowing them to charge more overall for advertising.
