Apple announced Thursday that its iPhone will support corporate email, targeting a enterprise smartphone market and RIM's BlackBerry handsets.
The move would boost iPhone's recent pledge to sell 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008.
The iPhone will work with Microsoft's Exchange software to managing email, contacts and calendars that "pushes" info to handheld devices, reports Reuters. Users can sync information with one another and also remotely wipe out phones if lost or apprehended.
Last year, Compete measured the iPhone's position in the smart phone market. The iPhone drew 20 times more interest than the average phone launch, potentially because most consumers consider web or internet access the most important feature on smartphones. Mimicking the browsing experience of a desktop computer is one thing the iPhone does well.
In December, BlackBerry announced its intention to launch touchscreen handsets in 2008.
