The 'Squeegees'
Disney officially launched Stage 9 Digital Media yesterday, with the release of the short-form series Squeegees, a comedy about window-washer slackers.
Geared toward teens, Squeegees is the first of 20 online video series the made-for-web production studio will produce, according to The LA Times.
Stage 9 has been in development for two years. Disney delayed the debut until it had a series that was ready for the web.
"Squeegees" will be available on abc.com in addition to YouTube. Disney has disabled YouTube's embedding function.
As online video viewership continues to climb, Stage 9 will also benefit from low cost. Online series can be produced for as little as $200,000, while a network TV episode can cost 10 times that amount.
