Adobe Launches Apps for Handheld Rich Content

Rich media invades mobile

Adobe has launched two new mobile apps, Flash Home and Flash Cast 2, designed to bring rich content to mobile screens.

Flash Home helps build home screens and wallpapers with live data services. Developers are encouraged to use it to turn idle home screens into elaborate branded content, reports Information Week.

Flash Cast 2 is an update of Adobe's offline portal for accessing data services via mobile. These include subscription-based services like news, sports, and entertainment.

Verizon Wireless, Japan's NTT DoCoMo, and China's Chungwa Telecom use Flash Cast to provide rich media through content portals.

MTVN, Nasdaq, eBay, Reuters, and Dolce & Gabbana also use Adobe for Flash Player-compatible mobile apps.

According to Adobe, 450 million Flash-compatible mobile devices have been shipped to date.
