At the Consumer Electronics Show today, Yahoo announced it will be opening its mobile software for third-party developers, reports The New York Times.
Apps built on Yahoo's Go platform will be accessible by customers across a range of cellphone carriers and devices. Increasing the number of carriers and devices that run Yahoo Go was the main stumbling block identified by industry watchers.
Yahoo's Marco Boerries is also hoping to attract developers by monetizing applications with Yahoo-powered ads.
Last November Yahoo announced its intention to sell ads across mobile carriers, but pooh-poohed Google for using Android to meddle with mobile carriers.
