Wikia Search Launches in Beta, Public Launch Anticipated for January

full of contenders

Following the death of any hype about its debut, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has launched Wikia Search in beta.

Wikia Search apires to bring the same "wisdom of crowds" philosophy to bear on refining search results. Pages will be moved up or down in organic listings based on how relevant they are deemed to be by members.

The community will continuously check for people trying to game the system or otherwise abuse it.

The private beta permits a handful of people to test-run the offering, according to a private letter from Wales to the Wikia Search email list (via TechCrunch).

This is in anticipation of a public launch on January 7th.
