Greenpeace Launches Machinima Knocking Toxic Game Consoles

Greenpeace has launched a campaign, aimed at gamers, to persuade Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft to make their consoles greener.

Greenpeace says major console makers lag behing PC and mobile phone makers in reducing the "toxic burden of their products," reports BBC News.

Electronics often end up in scrapyards, exposing Chinese and Indian workers to toxic materials.

Titled Clash of the Consoles, the Greenpeace campaign features a 90-second video starring Master Chief from Microsoft's Halo franchise, Nintendo's Mario, and Sony's Kratos. The mascots all compete for the greenest gaming console.

Clash's microsite makes it easy for concerned gamers to write to console makers. The site also gives suggestions on how they can spread the word online.

For its Guide to Greener Electronics, Greenpeace gave Nintendo its first ever zero rating, but controversy surrounded the designation. Sony Ericsson came out on top.

Last week Greenpeace published the results of a survey it conducted as part of a campaign in virtual world Habbo.

Of the 50,000 virtual residents surveyed, 74 percent rated the environment over drugs, violence, and war as the issue they were the most concerned about.
