France to Cut Web Access for Music, Film Pirates

Sarkozy proves
no friend to pirates

France has announced it will cut web access to those that illegally download music or films under new anti-piracy measures.

The three-way pact between ISPs, the government and creative copyrights owners will deliver warning messages to those that download illegally.

Those that ignore the message could have their accounts suspended or closed altogether, according to Reuters.

Under the deal, film and music companies are also obligated to post their content quicker and remove technical barriers, such as DRM.

In the US, ISPs like Verizon and Comcast fell under fire recently for allegedly slowing file sharing downloads. The companies alleged P2P downloaders hoard web access.
