Viddler Launches Tag-Based Video Ad Platform

Lights, camera ... advertise!

Video-sharing site Viddler has introduced an ad system that, like myriad others before it, allows video creators to monetize their productions.

The ad format leverages an existing Viddler functionality. On the site, users can mark their favorite snippets of a given video, then add comments and tags, all of which are available the next time the viewer logs in.

The ads are based on this metadata. Advertisers will be able to buy tags, borrowing from the keyword-based model traditionally used to marry ads to appropriate users. Ads are then sold through an auction process, with the winner anteing up the highest cost-per-click.

Viddler has already partnered with Amazon and is talking to other e-tailers to deliver ads linking to products for sale on their sites.
