Sales of the Playstation 3 doubled, following a pricecut of $100.

On October 8, Sony introduced a lower-priced model in the US.

Sony sold over 100,000 consoles in the week ending November 11– from 30,000 to 40,000 sold before the cut. The company also lowered the price of its 80 GB model from $599 to $499 and introduced a 40 GB model for $399.

The pricecut comes at a time when the Nintendo Wii console is running out of hardware. By October, Nintendo shipped 9.3 milllion Wiis worldwide and is expected to hit 22.3 million by March 2008.

Microsoft has also shipped 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles since launching in Q4 2005.
