Gannett, Tribune Expand Metromix Franchise

But will it beat Yelp?

Gannett and Tribune Co. are joining forces on the expansion of Tribune's Metromix franchise into new markets, reports Reuters.

Tribune first announced it would be introducing hyper-local versions of its Metromix site in new markets back in July. By pairing with Gannet, Tribune gains access to more locations around the country and still more reach for ad sales.

The new Metromix LLC will be co-owned by the two publishing giants. The increased reach will attract more national advertisers who may not have signed on when the Metromix network included just a handful of cities.

Metromix's local sites include both professional and consumer-penned reviews of local theaters, bars, restaurants and other attractions geared toward urban-dwelling 21-34 year olds.
