Verizon Opts to Settle With Vonage

Verizon and Vonage have announced a settlement to the patent dispute embroiling the two companies, reports ArsTechnica.

The settlement is dependent on whether or not the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit opts to hear arguments on two of the patents still up for grabs.

If the court does hear the case, Vonage will owe no more than $80 million to Verizon. If the court decides to rehear the case, the payment goes up to $120 million.

Vonage expressed eagerness to put the case behind it and feels the settlement will bring a measure of closure to the issue.

Unfortunately Vonage is still disentangling itself from a similar suit recently brought against it by AT&T. Vonage may seek a settlement in the case instead of taking the issue to court.
