MySpace to Launch Souped-Up Casual Gaming Section

Casual gaming, anyone?

MySpace is resuscitating its gaming section in a big way after closing a deal with casual gaming distributor Oberon Media.

Moving forward, Oberon will build the refurbished gaming site and manage its operations.

In January, MySpace will launch the new gaming section — offering hundreds of free casual games — to its 110 million members, according to the Wall Street Journal. The site will allow users to invite friends to multiplayer games and chat while playing.

Casual gaming brought $380 million in revenue last year and is expected to jump 35 percent to $512 million this year, according to NPD Group.

Oberon distributes games to PCs, mobile phones, and set-top boxes to partners like Microsoft, Yahoo, and Comcast.
