Google set another milestone for advertising, reporting a 46 percent rise in profits in the third quarter.
Google reported revenue of $4.23 billion in Q3, up 57 percent from the $2.67 billion it brought in during the same period of 2006. It then paid out $1.22 billion to the advertising partners, a little over 25 percent, and wound up with post-payout revenue of $3.01 billion.
Expectations by analysts and investors were high for Google after Yahoo reported better than expected earnings. Google continues to look for new advertising outlets and lately has been making a number of moves to monetize the vast amount of videos on YouTube.
One area of operations Google will be looking closely at is Orkut, its social networking site that enjoys most of its popularity overseas.
The company came under fire after pictures of naked children and animals being abused were posted to profiles, alongside which Google ran ads.
Google pulled the ads immediately and said it would increase the monitoring of user profiles to prevent such content from being displayed in the future.
