Firefox Web Browser Sets Sights on Mobile

The new frontier

Mozilla Firefox, the web browser that challenged Internet Explorer with a surprise launch a few years back, is setting sights on the mobile platform.

The announcement came from Mozilla VP of engineering Mike Schroepfer, who pointed out Mozilla is already part of Ubuntu Mobile and that a Mozilla-based browser is running on the Nokia N800. (Ubuntu is a Linux-based operating system.)

Wired's Compiler wonders if a mobile version of Firefox would make a significant impact on the Opera mobile web browser.

Opera comes preloaded on "just about any smartphone," while Opera Mini works on any phone with a data plan.
