Google Sinks Teeth into Jaiku

Few know 'innovation'
on Google's scale

In a move that has set the press abuzz, Google bought social mobile startup Jaiku this week.

Jaiku competes with Twitter, another social startup that helped coin the term lifecasting, allowing users to post what they're doing — and receive updates on friends — in real-time via mobile phone.

Google acquired another social mobile startup, Dodgeball, a few years back, which made recent headlines when the company's original founders left Google.

Jaiku's website reports that the service is temporarily closed to new user sign-ups "in order to focus on innovation."
