Blinkx has introduced a new overlay ad format that video publishers can embed into content, reports ClickZ.
The new product, called AdHoc, makes Blinkx the latest video site to use overlay ads as a way to allow publishers to monetize videos.
Ads will be provided by outside vendors like Yahoo or Microsoft, with Blinkx splitting revenue with publishers down the middle. Overlays will be one of the two formats available, with text ads that appear above the player being the other choice.
Blinkx has taken precautions, including making sure to do business with the more reputable networks available, to guard against abuse by the few bad actors who might seek to abuse the system.
The potential for click fraud or for ads being placed against someone else's copyrighted content does exist, the company admits, but the company is counting on the partner networks to monitor for such abuse.
