Facebook Eyeballed Over Child Safety

Underage Facebooker ...
or private eye?

New York attorney-general Andrew Cuomo is investigating Facebook, alleging the site does not sufficiently protect children from sexual predators.

The move came shortly after news that Microsoft may be courting Facebook for a five-percent stake.

In a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Cuomo stated that investigators posing as young children were later targeted by sexual predators on the site. And complaints issued to Facebook after each incident was "slow, sporadic and inconsistent."

Cuomo also expressed that Facebook's outward impression of a safe environment for users "may be materially misleading" and may thus violate New York business law, the Financial Times reports.

Facebook said it would work alongside the appropriate agencies to maintain a safe space for users.
