European Commission Moves Sluggishly on Examining Google's DoubleClick Purchase

European regulators have yet to decide whether or not they will launch a full investigation into the purchase of DoubleClick by Google, reports The Times.

The European Commission has until October 26th to decide whether or not it will more fully examine whether the acquisition sparks antitrust concerns. The investigation could mean a delay of months for Google, which says the deal respects user privacy and would be good for the online ad marketplace.

Microsoft is at the head of the line in urging regulators to scrutinize the deal, since it has been bidding for DoubleClick along with Google. The software giant also received a recent spanking from the European Commission for anti-competitive practices.
