Nokia Buys Mobile Distribution Firm Enpocket

Nokia has purchased Enpocket, an acquisition expected to better position the wireless company to build its own ad platform, reports ClickZ.

Enpocket's functionality and services will reportedly be integrated into Nokias almost immediately, giving the firm instant access to its entire network in the US and elsewhere.

It also expands Nokia's reach beyond its own network, since Enpocket services other carriers.

Some perceive the purchase as a good move for mobile advertising, since the company must now think strategically outside its "walled garden" - a condition aptly attributable to the mobile platform, which suffers from carrier segmentation.

Segmentation has prevented marketers from otherwise investing in the platform, as it is difficult to develop productive relationships with carriers from a financial and demographic perspective.
