Kids to Control Cartoon Network Programming in Dual-Platform Promotion

Remotes make modern wands

In terms of turning TV interactive, Turner's Cartoon Network may have a winner on its hands.

Starting September 24, the network will invite kids to join one of three clubs to compete for domination of the network's after-school airwaves in a 15-week promotion called Master Control.

To get started, kids log onto CartoonNetwork.com to join one of three teams with names that bring Harry Potter to mind. One team is thus described, "elite warlocks by birthright, Blastadons wield powerful and ancient magic."

Kids then vote online to see which show will air Monday through Thursday in the 5:30 PM slot. The team with the most votes decides the entire 4 - 6 PM programing block that Friday.

Each team will boast a homepage that acts as a rallying point for its members. The network plans more competitions in the future, culminating with a tournament play-round, where winners decide multiple days of programming.
