NBC: Our '08 Olympics Site is Really Important

NBC plans to use the website it's created as the hub of its 2008 Olympic Games coverage, reports MediaPost.

The focus on the web comes after it was the sole bright spot to come out of NBC coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics. The network lost $70 million on that deal but saw interest grow for content it was posting online.

NBC launched the site, NBCOlympics.com, last week. Currently it's stocked with video from previous games, blogs and other content. The modest offerings will be fleshed out as the Games, still a year away, come closer to kicking off.

The network plans on streaming 2,200 hours of live coverage, as well as recaps that will run with pre-roll ads. Advertisers would be integrated in some fashion into the streaming video on the site.
