MediaDefender Claims Antipiracy Trap Was 'Internal R&D' Site

ZeroPaid posted a follow-up to last week's news that the MPAA had launched a bogus torrent site designed to catch pirates in the act. The MPAA denies any involvement with MiiVi while MediaDefender, the company directly involved, called MiiVi an "internal R&D" site for video and had "nothing to do with antipiracy."

MediaDefender bills itself as the "undisputed provider of choice for most global content owners, and has retained a dominant position in the P2P Anti-Piracy Industry."

MediaDefender also has relationships with most major content owners. Meanwhile, the MPAA claims it has no relationship with the company whatsoever.

MediaDefender claims it didn't password-protect this internal project because it did not realize people would visit. Further, MediaDefender claims it ultimately took the site down due to hackers breaking into the site and bloggers defaming MiiVi as entrapment.
