Mossberg: Ask.com Trumps Google Search Result Display

Ask.com's new search interface does a better, cleaner job of displaying results from across various verticals in the opinion of Washinton Post technology writer Walt Mossberg.

Ask.com's drastic redesign of a month or so ago displays results from varied sources in an easier-to-navigate way than competitor sites like Google's recent Universal Search launch.

While both products seek to combine results from across platforms like blogs, news sources and webpages, Mossberg prefers Ask's new display. That's because where Google mixes all platforms into what it feels to be a contextual ranking, Ask keeps them in their silos but displays them on one page.

Both search engines changed their search displays within the last couple of months. Ask.com, though, seriously lags behind Google and others in the search market in terms of market share, a deficit that could perhaps be impacted by more endorsements like Mossberg's.
