EMI to Share Licensed Content on YouTube

Early yesterday Google and EMI Group made an agreement that empowers the search engine giant to showcase the label's extensive music video and artist collection on YouTube, reports ZDNet.
YouTube's content management tools will track EMI content and compensate artists involved. If necessary, it will also facilitate the removal of copyright work as requested.

Google's October YouTube purchase came built-in with a passel of legal complaints over the handling of copyright material. Since then the pair have been working to counteract future courtroom visits, having already developed relationships with Warner Music, Universal Music, Sony BMG, CBS and the BBC.

The EMI relationship was the last major base that needed covering. "With this deal, all four of the world's major music companies are now official YouTube partners," said CEO Chad Hurley of YouTube.
EMI also committed to work with Google to enable people to incorporate videos and artist performances into user-generated content.

Popular EMI artists include Bowie, Coldplay, The Decemberists, Norah Jones, and Gorillaz. They are also holding fast to a great deal of original Beatles content.
