Retailer CD-Wow to Pay Record Cos. $81MM

The High Court in London ruled against online retailer CD-Wow this week for breaking a 2004 agreement to stop selling discounted and illegally imported albums in the UK, reports BBC News. CD-Wow must now pay British record companies 41 million GBP - nearly $81 million - in damages.

CD-Wow claims breaches to the agreement were due to human error and plans to fight the ruling in the European courts.

The British Phonographic Industry and Entertainment Retailers' Association embraced the ruling, with the EMA adding that illegal imports threaten level playing fields and British jobs.
