Wii Outpaces PS3 in Sales

A Wii can go a long way

The NPD Group published numbers showing the Nintendo Wii outsold the Sony Playstation 3 four to one in April, reports The New York Times. Last month, 360,000 Wiis were bought, four times the 82,000 PS3s purchased.

The gap widened from the Wii outselling the PS3 by 2 to 1 during the first three months of '07. Sony is struggling due to its sparse software offerings and much higher price - the Wii starts at $249, while the PS3 is priced at $599.

Overall, 2.5 million Wiis were sold in the U.S., versus 1.3 million PS3s and 5.4 million of Microsoft's Xbox 360s.

However, console battles can take years to play out. The Sony PS2, launched in 2000, remains the second best-selling console on the market, for example.
