RealNetworks has purchased a Sony-owned music provider for mobile users in Europe, reports The Seattle Times.
The division, Sony NetServices, was picked up by RealNetworks for $9 million in cash. It enables mobile users to either download music or stream it to their wireless device. The firm will continue to operate out of Salzburg, Austria, where it provides service to eight European countries.
NetServices is the second such acquisition RealNetworks has made recently. It purchased WiderThan in September for $350 million to flesh out its ringback and music download services.
