The Alpha Mom a Key Influencer

The Alpha Mom is the latest marketing buzzword, referring to the modern mom who is educated, tech-savvy - and a big influence on how other moms spend money, according to USA Today.

An Alpha Mom is online 87 minutes a day - seven percent more than the typical internet user, according to ComScore Networks. The Alpha Mom also has a high social-networking factor online, according to Nintendo VP of Marketing Perrin Kaplan.

To roll-out its Wii console last fall, Nintendo gathered small groups of trend-setting moms in eight cities to test it. One Alpha Mom recommended it to her email group - resulting in 200 moms' springing for the $250 console.

This isn't the first time moms have been sought after. There were the Soccer Moms lugging kids to sports fields in their minivans and courted as key swing voters by presidential campaigns. They were culturally ousted by the Yoga Moms who made time for themselves and made millions for marketers who wooed them.
