Though a smaller percentage of Latinos and non-Hispanic blacks are online than whites, the internet is not leaving minority populations behind, writes Business Week, citing a study by the Pew Hispanic Center and the Pew Internet & American Life Project.
More than half - 56 percent - of Latino adults and 60 percent of non-Hispanic blacks go online, compared with 71 percent for non-Hispanic whites, according to Pew. What still eludes many, however, is the full, interactive internet experience.
For less-affluent minorities, particularly Latinos, the web is still pretty much stuck at 1.0. Some 29 percent of Hispanics have home broadband connections, compared with 43 percent of whites and 31 percent of African-Americans.
About 90 percent of college-educated adults regularly use the internet, regardless of ethnicity and race. More Latinos and African-Americans will likely increase their internet participation as their socioeconomic status improves.
