From BusinessWeek
On March 1, Verizon Wireless launched V Cast Mobile TV, which allows subscribers to watch Comedy Central, Fox, and MTV right on their handsets, according to Business Week.
Additionally, AT&T and Modeo will launch services in 2007, while most major suppliers are poised to roll out mobile-TV phones for the U.S.
Verizon tested the service in a lab setting, yet the big question lies in whether people are willing to pay the subscription fee. In Europe, where mobile TV landed two years ago, former mobile-TV users outnumber existing users by 19%, according to a recent survey by M:Metrics.
However, the U.S. market may be ripe for a new phenomenon: media convergence. Phones could eventually be used to project mobile-TV footage onto larger PC and TV screens, and U.S. companies like Slingbox are working toward this next step.
